MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY – STEP 11: Deferring gratification

What ability do you need to learn/practice in order to empower your strong will and be able to stand up, take that first step and go work on your dreams/projects when you don’t feel like it? 🤔
:::
Please read and let me know if it sounds familiar 🧐. Your friend brings cake to work and you can’t resist. You feel lilke dropping everything and taking an evening off to watch TV instead of work (and you keep doing that everyday)…
:::
Your brain 🧠 demands a reward here and now! You forget about your goal and all the reasons why you wanted to achieve it. You succumb to temptation…🤭😜
:::
Or maybe…? With your last remains of strongwill you leave that cake from friend somewhere out of sight, you turn TV off and and work on your dreams thinking thay each hour spent working gets you closer to your goal 💪.
:::
The ability to postpone pleasures or rewards is called ➡️ ‘deferring gratification’ ⬅️ in psychology. It is crucial to realize long-distance goals because it helps you not to succumb to temptation each time 😉.
:::
Why is it so hard to defer gratification? Because seeing temptation or reward instantly launches more primitive and oldest part of our brain demanding gratification right away 😬. Luckily we also have prefrontal cortex (part of our brain 🧠) that can cool that instant rush because it is responsible for controlling our impulses .
:::
Task for today 📝: think how deferring gratification looks in your case? In what situations is it easier or more difficult to you? What helps you defer gratification?

8 things I’ve learned about Mexico while being there

➡️ 1. Everything I knew about Mexican food was a lie 😬. Mexicans don’t eat burritos (they do only in the north part), they don’t eat quesadillas or tacos as we know it – this is all Tex-Mex cuisine, not traditional Mexican food 😉. Mexican cuisine is not that hot 😉, there’s less bean & corn I’d thought there’d be and there’s plenty seafood! 🦐
Dishes I got to know there:
🔸️Cochinita Pibil (shredded pork stew)
🔸️Mole (sauce made from dried chilies, tomatoes, chocolate, seeds & spices)
🔸️Flautas (traditional Mexican tacos made with rolled corn tortilla and filled with mashed potato, cheese, chicken, etc.)
➡️ 2. Mayans are still very much alive and there will be a seperate post about them 😃
➡️ 3. Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead 💀, is a beautiful holiday celebrated on Nov 1st & 2nd. Those are colorul and happy days because Mexicans believe that the souls of their close ones who have passed away come to earth to visit them ☺. Families set altars (like this one on the photo) with a photo of a lost one, fruit 🍌, special sweet bread they bake for that occasion called Pan de Muerto, characteristic orange flowers called cempasuchil 🏵 & something that this family member liked – e.g. some book, guitar etc. Later, they go to the cemetary bringing treats and they spend whole day at the grave talking, laughing and being close to their lost one ❤
➡️ 4. If you get a gift like a sugar skull with your name on it or they’ll give you some miniature coffins saying „those are for your family” it does not mean they wish you death and that they don’t like you! 🤭 This is a gift from the heart and you should accept it!
➡️ 5. Apart from tequila & hot peppers 🌶, Mexico is a big exporter of chewing gum as this is made from the tree that grows there!
➡️ 6. Yukatan peninsula is a big land that arised from the ocean when meteorite hit the Earth – this is why this land is totally flat (the highest peek of Yukatan peninsula is… 235 m above the sea 😳) and there are no rivers!
➡️ 7. Mexicans are sweet and loving people! 🥰
➡️ 8. It’s not a poor country!

I honestly fell in love with Mexico ❤

Appreciate your time

Do you appreciate your time? Do you value it? 🤔
:::
„Time is a currency you can only spend once” – remember about it! ⚠️
:::
There are plenty things that you can get back after losing it 😉 – any material thing of course but abstract things like relationship 💏, trust 🤝or confidence 💪 can be brought back to you too!
:::
Yet there are 2 things that you can’t get back once you lose it – health and time 😬. As much as with modern medicine and some cures you can get your health back in some cases, you will never get lost time back. 😔
:::
That’s why it is so important to choose wisely what you do with it but also to cherish your time, to appreciate the time you have for yourself 🙏.
:::
If you don’t feel like you belong somewhere (you’re bored and not learning anything at work 🤷‍♀️, you’re invisible and being ignored at a party 🙄, you’re pouring your heart out and not getting anything in return in a relationship 💔…) just drop it. Don’t waste your time on a job you dislike, on hobbies you’re not passionate about or on people who don’t care about you 😚.
:::
Cherish your time, this is the most expensive value/currency you’ve got 💰. Use it to spend it on something that matters to you, something that is important to you 😉.
:::
Also remember to save some time for yourself 🙏, to regenerate, to get your energy back. Stop putting others’ needs first – if you booked some time for yourself and somebody calls you asking for help or simply to spend some time with him/her just be open about your needs and say that you want and need to spend some time on your own ❤ (unless it’s really urgent and somebody really needs your help). There’s nothing bad about it! 😉
:::
Everybody needs and should have some me-time from time to time! This is the time where we truly relax, truly are ourselves. Respect that need and that time! 🙏

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY – STEP 10: What can weaken your willpower

3 mind traps that can weaken your willpower 😳
:::
➡️ 1.Thinking „everything or nothing” 😬
Have you ever thought „I need to do everything from my ‘to do’ list or drop everything”? 🤔
If yes, then you got into „everything or nothing” trap which can have huge impact on your actions and effects (or lack of them 🙄). Thinking like that you don’t see your failures as small errors that you can learn from, you see it as total failure and you might start withdrawing generalized conclusions about yourself like „I’ll never succeed”, „I’m a failure” etc. STOP! ⛔
:::
➡️ 2. Excessive pessimism or optimism „If I haven’t succeeded in 1 year I’ll never succeed” – that’s excessive pessimism when you have only negative thoughts about your future 1👎. Excessive optimism is when you ignore your past attempts and previous experience and keep thinking that „this time will be different, it will be perfect” 👍. For example, you wanted to workout regularly, you’ve had couple attempts at it and failed each time but now you think that you’ll have the willpower and you’ll workout 6 times a week for 3 months 😬. If you know what I’m talking about write all of such examples down. Now try to make each one of them more realistic e.g. „I’ll try to workout more regularly. I probably won’t be able to workout 6 times a week right away so I’ll workout 2 times this week, 3 times next week and keep improving”.
:::
➡️ 3. Exaggeration – You exaggerate all difficulties and make everything sound impossible 🙄. „I won’t make it”, „I never do anything right”.
If you do that write all of those thoughts down and write a counterargument to each one 👍

I am happy

You know when I trully realised that I’m happy? ☺ That I love my life? ❤ When I realised that I love all seasons!🥰
:::
I used to  be a really grumpy person, believe me 🙄, and couple years ago when you’d ask me what’s my favourite time of the year I’d say ‘none’. Because there was something bad in each season – too cold in winter 🥶, too hot in summer 🥵, too rainy in autumn ☔ and there’s be something wrong with spring too (I can’t even name now what would be wrong with spring haha! 😅).
:::
Then some time later I started to love spring 🌸 and summer ☀️ but autumn and winter were still kinda depressing for me.
:::
And this year, couple weeks ago actually, I realised that I’m excited about each season! 😊 I was really excited about spring when it came this year, about being able to have nice walks out, to watch flowers bloom etc. 🥰 Then I was really happy when summer came and we started taking even more walks, having some picnics out, lovely long evenings in our garden and I was kinda bumped to see it all end when September started but then I realised…oh my, oh my, it will be so beautiful now with all the leaves falling 🍂, with sweater weather, hot chocolate, sitting under a blanket… such a cozy and lovely time! ☺ And I’m excited about winter too! I hope that it will snow in Poland a lot too like it did last year! ☃️
:::
Because it is all about mindset and seeing what’s good about something and not focusing on disadvantages of it😉. And it works with everything! You can see only disadvantages in your partner, point out why he’s not like prince charming 🙄, or you can focus on his good qualities like how he treats you, how he takes care of you etc. Same with e.g. your work – you can hate it and be unhappy everyday when you need to go to work or you can decide to see positives in it – e.g. that you like people working with you, that you like how your boss takes you seriously, that you love new challenges in it etc. ☺
:::
It REALLY is your choice how you see the world and wether you’re happy or not! 😉

About me

A ticking bomb above my head

There’s a ticking bomb above my head 🤯.
:::
I’m turning 30 soon. Quite a milestone 😅.
I had plenty goals that I wanted to achieve by being 30 🤔. Even this year, I wanted to accomplish couple more things by that big day. And I failed 😬.
But did I? 😉
:::
Same as in my previous post about noticing positives in everything – it’s about noticing what you HAVE accomplished, not about what you didn’t manage to do 😉.
:::
And I personally think that I’ve accomplished a lot 😛. I published a book 📖 and even had famous Polish director talking about it, I write/publish those posts here for over 13 000 people and it melts my heart when I get a DM from one of you from time to time saying that you love what I’m doing or that I actually really have helped you (LOVE IT ❤), I got married to an amazing human being 🥰, my partner in crime and my best friend, I have an amazing home 🏡, amazing family, amazing friends 👯, I’ve been able to travel to so many places 🏛🏝, see so many bands live 🎶… it’s been such an amazing life so far, trully! ❤
:::
And I have so many more ideas for next years, for future projects!
So in the end… I’m so excited to hit 30s and carry on with this happy, positive life! 😃
:::
And how about you? Are you happy about your life? Are you focusing on positives? 😊

SELF LOVE: Homemade Natural Face Powder 🧖‍♀️

Homemade natural face powder is the easiest makeup to make! Just three ingredients and suddenly you’ve made your own face powder for practically pennies! 😃
:::
➡️ Arrowroot Powder
This is the safer version of cornstarch. Not that cornstarch is horribly unsafe but it can pose allergy issues and is often made from GMO’s, thus I prefer to use arrowroot over cornstarch but the two are interchangeable.
➡️ Cocoa Powder
Not only does cocoa powder act as the main coloring ingredient in this DIY but it’s also beneficial for your skin! 😃Cocoa powder contains antioxidants which helps heal and repair any skin damage.
➡️ Cinnamon
This spice does provide a tiny bit of coloring but it is also helpful for acne.
:::
Light Powder
🔸️ 2 Tbs. arrowroot powder
🔸️ 1/2 tsp. cocoa powder
🔸️ 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
:::
Medium Powder
🔸️ 2 Tbs. arrowroot powder
🔸️ 1 1/2 tsp. cocoa powder
🔸️ 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
:::
Dark Powder
🔸️ 2 Tbs. arrowroot powder
🔸️ 1 Tbs. cocoa powder
🔸️ 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
:::
➡️ Place ingredients into a bowl.
➡️ Mix well, use the back of a spoon to break up any cocoa powder clumps.
➡️ Start out with the shade closest to your skin tone but to get a perfect match you may need to add more cocoa powder or cinnamon.
➡️ Transfer to a clean jar or old compact container.
:::
To use:
Lightly apply to a makeup brush and apply as you would normally 😃. Go lightly however, as this is a loose powder and you do not need much.
