MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY – STEP 1: What is motivation?

Time for new series! For next several weeks every Monday I’ll be uploading a post about motivation – what it is, how to gain it, how to keep it, some tips etc.

Here’s step 1 – what motivation actually is


Motivation is the process that initiates and guides goal-oriented behaviors. It is what causes you to act ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Motivation devides into 2 types:
โžก๏ธ Extrinsic motivations โ€“ motivators that come from outside, could be some contests, awards etc but also social status or praise
โžก๏ธ Intrinsic motivations โ€“ motivators that come from within the individual, pure desire to self-evolve, to learn new things to be better just for you/for your health

Understanding how motivation actually works will help you improve the efficiency of your work, help you take action, help you feel in control and will improve your overall  well-being and happiness ๐Ÿ’ช.

There are three major components of motivation: activation, persistence and intensity.
 ๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ Activation is about action, e.g. a decision to initiate some behavior, such as taking up new hobby, taking some class to learn a new skill
  ๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธPersistence is about keeping the initial desire to achieve/get something, it is moving constantly forward towards your goal even through obstacles.
 ๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ Intensity is basically how hard you want to reach a goal, it is about your focus on it and vigor that goes into pursuing a dream.๏ฟฝ For example, lets say that two people want to learn a new language. One will take couple classes until he/she knows the basics while another one is really focused on those classes but also does some extracurricular things like watching movies in this language to practice understanding it in hearing, reads some books in the foreign language, takes some quizes online etc. First person lacks the intensity โ˜บ.

In the next couple of weeks weโ€™ll learn more about how motivation works, how to boost each type and component of it and how to be more motivated and eager to work on your goal ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Next day work on your new task and repeat the task from day 1.
Day 1 – task nr 1
Day 2 – task nr 1 + task nr 2
Day 3 – task nr 1 + task nr 2 + task nr 3
And so on

Spring time = time to bloom!

This autumn and winter has been tough but spring is finally here and you know what spring means? It is all about blooming, growing and basically starting new life! ๐Ÿค—

And it’s not only about trees, grass and flowers, no no! Having those couple tough past months behind us we are ready to leave it all behind and bloom! ๐Ÿค—

I’ve had plenty plans for 2020, I have even more plans for 2021 yet with all that stress and still not being able to find that energy back past-covid I’ve been powerless, lazy and tired all the time lately ๐Ÿ˜ช

But that’s ok! There’s still plenty of 2021 left so we can all still get back to working on our projects, pursue our dreams and reach our goals! ๐Ÿค—

Spring is here which also means that the day is longer, sun is shining and we get more vitamine D from the Sun so we should be more energetic and more willing to work! ๐Ÿ˜Š
You just have to get up and take that 1st step! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Healthy balance

You know whatโ€™s one of my main rules in life? Healthy balance about EVERYTHING ๐Ÿ˜‰

We live in crazy times where everybody is in a rush, everybody wants to be the best at something ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Some people risk it all to get what they want. Is it worth it though? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Iโ€™ve heard some people say that in order to be successful you need to totally limit your time off and focus on work ๐Ÿ˜ถ. That you need to drop Netflix, drop the time with your loved ones and spend every minute of your day self-evolving ๐Ÿ˜ That instead of watching a tv show on Netflix in the evening you should focus on broadening your skills, your knowledge and read a book ๐Ÿ“–

I understand that in order to succeed you need to work hard and I totally agree with that ๐Ÿ‘ I highly encourage everybody to self-evolve, to learn new skillsโ€ฆ sure, that too โ˜๏ธ. But to limit your time off? ๐Ÿ˜• To never watch Netflix (apart from the fact that you can always learn something from a tv show/movie/documentary ๐Ÿ™„)? To never have propper leisure time? ๐Ÿ˜’
Na-ah ๐Ÿ‘Ž

There needs to be balanceโš–. Not only you NEED TO REST regularly in order to rebuild your energy to work, to get new ideas ๐Ÿคฉ, to stay fresh ๐Ÿ™‚ but if you work your ass off and never rest youโ€™ll lose your motivation, lose your will to work and it will all become a torture for you and in the end when you succeed it wonโ€™t bring you any joy ๐Ÿ˜

Another example are people who want to lose weight or muscle up and they work out every day or even twice a day ๐Ÿ™„. That ainโ€™t the way to do it ๐Ÿšซ. Muscles grow on your rest days! You need at least 1 day break from working out a week for the body to recharge and for your muscles to grow.

You should make sure that thereโ€™s heathy balance โš– in every part of your life:
Between work ๐Ÿ’ป & rest ๐ŸŽฌ
Between working out ๐Ÿ’ช& regeneration ๐Ÿง–โ€โ™€๏ธ
Between your career ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป & private life ๐Ÿ’ƒ
Between the time youโ€™ve got for others ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and time youโ€™ve got for yourself ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Between physical development ๐Ÿ’ช and mental development ๐Ÿง 
Between caring about whatโ€™s important โš ๏ธ and ignoring whatโ€™s not ๐Ÿšซ
Healthy balance is the key, believe me ๐Ÿ˜‰
